Animal Humane | New Mexico is in the process of submitting an application for funding from Maddie’s Fund, a pet rescue foundation. The funding will support the efforts of a coalition of shelters and rescue groups called the Maddie’s Fund Adoption Guarantee Coalition (MAGC) which includes Animal Humane, the City of Albuquerque’s Animal Welfare Department, NMAF, PACA, and EnchantMutts. The goal is to become an adoption guarantee community in Bernalillo County by adopting all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats. This will be a community-wide effort, which will involve the coalition as well as local veterinarians and animal care specialists working together to help address the homelessness of animals in our County. The goal is to obtain information from the community on which medical and behavioral conditions it would consider as "healthy"," treatable", and "unhealthy and untreatable." A criteria for receiving funding is to develop community-wide definitions for the various health conditions and treatments of animals by developing a Pet Evaluation Matrix through the use of this survey. The purpose of using these community-based classifications is to determine if more funding and resources are needed to meet the community's expectations of care by its shelters.
